Miriam Makeba, 1932 – 2008

Like many, we were saddened by the news this morning that Zenzile Mariam Makeba, known as Mama Afrika, passed away at age 76. Miriam had often said, "I will sing until the last day of my life."

And indeed it was onstage yesterday that she collapsed following her performance. She was immediately rushed to the hospital where doctors were unable to revive her early this morning.

Rest in peace Mama Afrika.
