K'naan Shows Denver Love at Valentine's Day Show

metroAfrican's Isabella Muturi Sauve meets K'naan
Love was in the air at Owsley's Golden Road during K'naan's Valentines Day show. The Somali-born musician recounted to the crowd the story of what he said was the only Valentines Day gift he ever gave.
When he was a young teenager, he had a date to take a beautiful young lady out to dinner. Problem was, he only had six dollars, which was surely not enough to buy a meal. So on the way to pick her up, he stopped by in a shop to purchase whatever his meager cash could purchase.
He came out of the shop with a snow globe, which he wrapped in brown paper since that was all he had. He didn't mention whether the girl liked the gift or not, but from the fact that he has not given a Valentines gift since, it might not have gone over so well.
In addition to the story and a spoken word piece about love, K'naan performed songs from his first album, The Dusty Foot Philosopher as well as the upcoming Troubadour, out February 24th.
The crowd was a mix of long-time fans and newcomers to K'naan's music, which has gained popularity in the US in recent months thanks to exposure on MTV and other mainstream outlets. K'naan will further his foray into popular media with a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on February 18th.

Performing with K'naan was Denver-based hip-hop group Moetavation. Their new album Deep Rokc features Dead Prez, Umi, and Bun B among others. If you don't already know about Moetavation, check them out and support your local music.
