Zimfest 2009 Kicks off with an Intercultural Opening Ceremony
The 18th annual Zimbabwean Music Festival officially launched today with an opening ceremony in Boulder's Central Park. The kick off featured a number of local music and dance groups and a special ceremony led by Aztec dance group Mitotilitzli.

Mitotilitzli invited Zimbabweans in attendance to join in the dancing. They offered prayers and blessings for the visiting Zimbabweans. "Nations come together to heal the Earth" said one member of Mitotilitzli, "We come here to offer a prayer for our African brothers, our Zimbabwean brothers."

Following Mitotilitzli's performance several Zimbabwean elders performed a few songs and offered a blessing for the occasion.

Zimfest continues through the weekend with music and dance performances, classes and workshops, food, vendors and more. Visit the 2009 Zimfest website for a full rundown of scheduled events and activities.
