AfricanFest

The African Culture Club and African Students Union at Auraria Campus hosted a celebration of African fashion, dance, and food this past weekend at the Tivoli Center. The African Fest featured poets Ralph Lazlo and Abstract, and a keynote address by Gatwec G. Dengpathot who shared his story of fleeing his country of Sudan.

Once guests had their fill of a variety of African foods, they took their seats to enjoy a fashion show showcasing modern and traditional clothing from Somalia, Nigeria and Ethiopia. Dancers from the West to the Horn of Africa performed on stage while the crowd joined in on the floor below.

African Fest offered a tremendous night of cultural delights, while also raising funds for a clothing drive for people in Sierra Leone. Check out the African Culture Club and the African Students Union on Facebook to learn more and to get involved.
