Colorado's African Communities

Colorado African Organization

CAO

Colorado African Organization (CAO) is an umbrella organization for all African refugees and immigrants in Colorado. CAO was formed in 2003 by a group of immigrant African professionals, who are leaders in the Colorado African communities they reside. This group realized that African immigrants form a significant part of the Colorado ethnic community but that they are underrepresented in the public policy decision-making forums. CAO was, therefore, formed to unite and advocate on behalf of all African immigrants and refugees residing in Colorado.

The African immigrant community, as a minority group in Colorado, is economically disadvantaged and socially incohesive to correct these conditions, we strongly believe that our community must come together to form a strong and united voice. This will enable us to advocate for our interests and thereby help address the social imbalances that currently exist in our midst.
